John Bartlett To Design For Claiborne

Posted by Fashion King on January 29th, 2008

If you love designer fashion but dread the huge hole you burn through your pocket each time you make a purchase, here’s good news for you!

Liz Claiborne Inc. recently announced that John Bartlett has been tapped to become the creative director for its men’s fashion sportswear line.  This equals to mass-market clothes with a better fabric and make, not to mention a subtle shift in design.  John’s new line of menswear, aptly named ‘Claiborne by John Bartlett’, is expected to hit retail stores in spring 2009.

The Cincinnati native designer, a two-time CFDA and Perry Ellis Menswear award winner, is expected to retain his newly opened retail store in the West Village. Mr. Bartlett commented on the announcement, “I am excited to infuse Claiborne with a strong DNA and lead the brand in a new and exciting direction. My goal is to create an enticing line at affordable prices that men will find irresistible. The Claiborne name has a strong legacy and I intend on honouring that while transforming the men’s line to address a great opportunity in the better men’s market.”

8 Men’s Fashion Faux Pas to Avoid

Posted by James Knows Shirts on January 22nd, 2008

Men’s Casual FashionThey say clothes make the man but how many of men believe they’ve got serious style when they’re walking around in a shirt and tie from the early 90s teamed with a pair of socks with sandals? There’s no denying that men’s fashion faux pas are legendary.

Unlike women, men have a tendency to go for whatever that is easy and comfortable. Hence, they often overlook the small details which actually matters the most if you want to dress for success.

Here’s a look at the fashion bloopers that men often make and should be avoided at all cost:

    1. Wearing Socks With Sandals
Dude, this definitely proves your lack of men’s style. The only place that you can wear socks with sandals and not get labelled as a fashion offender is in the privacy of your home. Do not, I repeat “DO NOT” ever step outside your home looking this way.

    2. Too Much Jewellery
Now, who said it was okay to wear as much jewellery as Mr T? A wedding band and a watch is all you need. Do yourself a favour and don’t pile on those gold neck chains, bracelets, body or facial piercings. They make you look heinous.

    3. Wrong Length Trousers
Always try on trousers before buying as different brands have different lengths and cuttings. If the waist of your trousers sits higher than the belly button, it is too high. On the other hand, trousers should not fall below the pelvic bones. According to Michael Anderson, vice president of men’s apparel at Banana Republic, “A good rule of thumb is that the waist should rest comfortably just above the hip bone.”

    4. Stained Clothing
Given the fact that spilling coffee on the shirt happens to all of us, it would be wise to keep a stain stick or a clean shirt in the office as a backup. Otherwise, I would suggest that you simply go out and purchase a new one when a stain occurs.

    5. Glittery Shirts
Glittery shirts are a thing of the past even if you are considering wearing them for clubbing purposes. Instead, try a form fitting back shirt which can be worn with jeans or trousers.

    6. Anything Novelty
Novelty clothing does not project style and are meant to be left on the racks of the store where you last saw them. Have you ever seen the “Batman Utility Belt”? It’s a belt which you can clip on any communications device or tool you might need. All I can say is “Ewwww….”.

    7. Flashy Designer Labels
Unless the designers start paying me huge chunks of money, I wouldn’t want to be walking around with a giant advertisement for a designer label on the front of my dress shirt. Keeping it moderate and simple is the key.

    8. Chunky Shoes
Take my word for it, chunky shoes are no longer cool unless you have travelled back in time to the 90s. You have my permission to throw them into the nearest garbage bin.
