Highlight on Fashion Designers: Phillip Lim
Posted by Fashion King on November 26th, 2007Usually we talk a lot about Shirts and Ties on this blog (funnily enough!) but we also like to highlight talent in the men’s fashion industry too. This post will feature Philip Lim, the 34 year old fashion designer who was once a design assistant at Katayone Adeli. Hailing from the Orange County, California, this American Fashion Designer is certainly a breathe of fresh air.
In 2004, the once up and coming designer made his solo break with his signature collection 3.1, to correlate with his age at that time. Within one year, he was tapped with a Vogue Fashion Fund nomination. In 2007, Lim was also presented with the Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Womenswear by the CFDA during its 25th Anniversary. Many speculated that his win could be due to his high fashion, ready to wear clothing which was very reasonably priced while others argued that it was the unexpected attention to details and his quirky designs that won the judges. Either way, Philip Lim is definitely a creative genius and designer to watch!
Spring 2007 saw the introduction of Lim’s springwear collection and the first free standing 3.1 Philip Lim store opened on Mercer Street, in New York City. Recently, one of Lim’s design from his 3.1 Philip Lim was featured on Men.style.com’s “This Season’s 15 Best Sweaters”. Check out his double breasted cabin cardigan, distinctive and colourful, it is definitely this season’s coolest pick. You can view Philip Lim’s collection on his website http://www.31philliplim.com/

Posted by Mens Fashion Consultant on November 13th, 2007What’s “IN” for men’s fashion this season is sweaters, knitwear, skinny ties and slim cut trousers.
Men’s trousers are so narrow that most will have to feature small pleats. These skinny pants should ideally be paired with a long oversized knitwear, especially turtle neck sweaters that are used by many fashion houses this season for a layered look. You can also opt to throw on a snug fitting jacket to complete the look for the season.
The neutral grey colour seems to be making a comeback and since it matches almost any other palette, it is definitely a welcome addition for this season.
As far as office wear is concerned, ties are a hot item this season with patterns like checks, plaid and textured stripes in black coloured background. Another fashion surprise for the fall/winter 2007: Bow ties and vests make it into ‘in’ list.
