Buying Men’s Suits
Posted by Mens Fashion Consultant on October 23rd, 2007Like it or not, there will always be occasions when we need to be formally attired such as when attending a wedding function or an important job interview. Hence, every man should own at least one suit in his lifetime.
Not many men wear suits these days on a daily basis - these days you’re lucky if you still get to wear a nice shirt to work! But those who do wear them understand the powerful statement a great quality men’s suit can make. Therefore, knowing how to choose the right suit is important.
Tailored Suits
Customized to fit a person’s individual body frame and is a better choice than getting one off the rack (provided the tailor knows what he is doing). Tailored suits come with a higher price tag, so it’s up to you to decide if they are worth it.
Off The Rack Suits
Always readily available and more often than not, designed with the latest trend in mind. Less pricey but the downside is it may not fit as well as a tailored one.
Single Breasted Suits
This is the most basic style where the front buttons on the suits are arranged in a single straight row. Single breasted men suits have a choice of two or three buttons. Extremely wearable and a great ‘all rounder. If you’re only going to own one suit jacket, you’ll be better off with a single breasted variety.
Double Breasted Suits
More formal suit, the double breasted suit features an overlapping front panel with two sets of buttons.
Purpose of the Suit
If you plan to wear a suit several days per week for business purposes, take a good look at the colours, designs and styles. Dark suits are great as they exude power and authority.
On the other hand, if you use suits less frequently, an all purpose suit in navy, grey and black would be an ideal buy. They can be worn to most functions like wedding, funerals, graduations as well as interviews. Remember also to choose timeless classics that will not go out in style.
Choosing The Right Fabric
Each fabric is different in terms of quality, durability, feel, and price. Despite the vast choices of materials available, a suit made out of wool still stands out as the best in my mind. Wool is robust, drapes well, breathes well and looks good and since I am a strong advocate of suits made of 100% wool, I will not bore you with unnecessary details about other fabrics.
